Services

Every Service We Offer Exists for One Reason

To build a van that performs exactly the way you need it to. Our services aren't a menu of random offerings — every one of them connects directly to the off-road adventure vans and family weekenders we build out of our Fife, Washington shop.

OUR SERVICES

Focused Services. Honest Results.

Every service we offer is tied directly to the two things we build best: off-road adventure vans and family weekenders. We don't take on work that falls outside that focus.

Whether you need a complete van build from scratch or you already have a van and want to add specific capability, our services are designed to meet you where you are and take your build exactly where it needs to go.

People come to us because they want work done right the first time, by people who understand what their van actually needs to do.

Complete Van Builds

From Bare Shell to Road-Ready. Every Stage, In-House, In Fife, Washington.

We begin with a thorough consultation to understand how you travel, where you go, and what your van needs to do for the people who will live and travel in it. From there, we design a complete system where electrical, suspension, heating, layout, and exterior work are all planned together before a single cut is made or a single component is ordered.

This is the right choice for adventurers and families who want a van built entirely to their life, with every system working together as it was designed to from day one.

Curated Upgrade Packages

Not every van owner needs a full conversion from scratch. A lot of the people we work with already have a van they like and just want to make it more capable for the way they actually travel.

That is exactly what our curated upgrade packages are designed for. Rather than offering a generic list of individual installs, we put together combination upgrades that are thoughtfully spec'd to work well together and address the specific ways customers want to improve their existing van.

Electrical Systems

Off-Grid Power Built for Real Demand

The electrical system is the core of any serious van build. Everything else in the van depends on it: your lighting, your refrigerator, your heating controls, your device charging, and in many cases your heating system itself. An electrical system that is not properly designed for your actual power needs will cost you more in the long run and will fail you at the worst possible moment, days from the nearest town on a remote backcountry road.

We build every Scallywagon electrical system around Victron Energy components, the most trusted and well-supported platform available for off-grid van use. Every system is custom-spec'd to your real power consumption, not a generic package applied across every build. We calculate your actual electrical load based on the devices you carry, the trips you take, and the solar conditions you can realistically expect.

Clients come to Scallywagon for electrical work specifically because they want a system that is designed correctly from the start, wired cleanly, and built to last for years of real use.

Off-Grid Capability

Stay Out Longer. Depend on Less. Go Further Into the Backcountry.

Off-grid capability is what separates a van that is useful on a weekend trip from a van that lets you stay out for as long as you want, wherever you want, without watching the clock for the nearest campground or power hookup.

True off-grid capability means having everything you need to be self-sufficient in remote areas: power, water, and heat that you can count on regardless of where you park. Our off-grid builds are designed around that standard, not a watered-down version of it.

We combine quality electrical systems with fresh water infrastructure, grey water management, and reliable diesel heating to create a fully self-sufficient travel platform. For those who spend serious time in the backcountry, the investment in proper off-grid capability pays for itself on the very first extended trip.

Suspension and Exterior Upgrades

The Foundation of Every Capable Off-Road Build

We build our suspension systems around Agile Off-Road lift kits, purpose-designed for high-roof cargo vans and trusted by serious backcountry travelers. Combined with a quality wheel-and-tire package, a properly lifted van gains the ground clearance, departure angle, and articulation to handle forest roads, mountain passes, and technical terrain with confidence.

Family-Friendly Layouts

Interior Design Built Around Real Family Life

A family layout either works or it does not. There is very little middle ground. A well-designed family interior makes every trip easier, more organized, and more enjoyable. A poorly designed one creates friction on every departure and makes long trips feel longer.

At Scallywagon, family layouts begin with a conversation about how your specific family travels. How many kids, what ages, what gear you carry, and what your weekly departure routine looks like. Every decision that follows is made with that specific family in mind.

We design and build sleeping configurations that work for adults and children without requiring a nightly furniture marathon. Storage systems that keep the right things accessible and the wrong things out of the way. Surfaces and materials that hold up to honest family use across years of real travel. Details like child-safe hardware, rounded edges, and modular options that evolve as your family's needs change.

Weekend and Travel Functionality

The Details That Make Every Trip Worth Taking

Weekend and travel functionality is where a van build moves from being capable to being genuinely enjoyable to live in. The right kitchen setup, the right lighting, the right window placement, the right insulation, and the right finishing details all add up to a van you want to get into every Friday and are never in a hurry to leave on Sunday.

We handle every element of weekend and travel functionality in-house at our Fife, Washington shop. Custom cabinetry built for real use and real durability. Kitchen setups designed for actual meal preparation on actual trips, not just reheating food. Window and roof vent installations that bring natural light into the interior and make the van comfortable year-round. Sound and thermal insulation that makes highway driving quieter and temperature management easier.

These are the details that do not show up in a component list but make an enormous difference in how much your family actually uses the van and how much you enjoy it when you do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a complete build, or can I just add one or two services?

Both options are available and both are valid depending on where you are in your van journey. If you are starting from scratch or want a van built entirely to your life, a complete build is the right choice. If you already have a van and want to add specific capability, our curated upgrade packages and individual services are designed for exactly that. Many clients start with a targeted upgrade and come back for more once they see what a properly executed system can do.

Do you work on any van platform or just specific models?

We work on all major van platforms including the Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter, and Ram Promaster. Each platform has different strengths depending on the service being performed, and we are happy to walk you through the considerations for your specific vehicle during the consultation.

Can services be added to a van I purchased elsewhere or had partially built by another shop?

Yes. We work on customer-owned vans and are happy to assess and continue a build that was started elsewhere, provided the existing work meets our quality standard. If it does not, we will tell you honestly what needs to be addressed before we can move forward. We have helped many clients bring partially completed builds up to the standard they deserved from the beginning.

How do I know which services my van needs?

The best way to figure that out is a free consultation with our Fife, Washington team. We listen to how you travel, look at your current van setup, and give you an honest assessment of what would make the biggest difference. We do not recommend services you do not need. We recommend what will genuinely improve how your van performs for your specific life.
